Walmart Canada is planning to open 11 Supercentres across Canada by the end of this month.

The new Supercentre openings will complete the company’s expansion plan for the current fiscal year ending January 31, 2015, Walmart said. The plan involved the building, expanding, remodelling or relocating of 35 Supercentres, the company said in a release. Walmart Canada’s total store count now stands at 394, including 280 Supercentres and 114 discount stores.

The new Supercentres are opening in:

Sydney River, N.S.

Charlottetown, PEI

Summerside, PEI

North Battleford, Sask.

Quesnel, B.C.

Cornwall, Ont.

Napanee, Ont.

Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Que.

Winnipeg, Man.

Edmonton, Alta.

Calgary, Alta.

It’s the first time that both Prince Edward Island Walmart locations are offering a full complement of fresh groceries, the company said. When investments in Walmart’s distribution network and ecommerce are included, the projects represent an injection of more than $500 million in the Canadian economy, the company said.

The openings come on the heels of Target’s decision last week to shutter its 133 Canadian stores. When asked whether the retailer plans to occupy any of Target Canada's store locations, a spokesperson for Walmart Canada told Business News Network that it has "nothing to announce regarding Target or other locations” and the company can't speculate on future decisions.
